An Amsterdam-based co-working concept called Spaces has opened its second Valley location in Scottsdale for workers looking for flexible office arrangements.
Spaces, now owned by Regus, opened in November at the Scottsdale Galleria business complex in Old Town Scottsdale. Its location is featured prominently on the first floor off Scottsdale Road.
The 35,000-square-foot space was renovated to include an open area with 100 seats, including restaurant style seating, an events area capable of holding 60 people, three conference rooms and 73 private offices of varying sizes.
Private offices come with desks, chairs and phones, and run from $709 a up to $50,000 a month, said Mary Berry, community manager of the Scottsdale Spaces.
A coffee bar/cafe deli opening in January, board games on tables, a wellness room and bikes for clients offer unique touches, Berry said.
“We offer monthly events through seminars, happy hours and networking,” Berry said. “Members get internet, IT support, local calls and a receptionist. Members also get access to any of the more than 3,000 Spaces around the world.”
The first Spaces in the Valley opened a year ago on two floors in downtown Phoenix’s One Renaissance Tower.
Spaces began 10 years ago and was acquired by Luxembourg-based Regus in 2015.
The Scottsdale Spaces is in the former McKesson office. San Francisco-based McKesson Corp. (NYSE: MCK) recently moved into a $38 million operations center within the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian community. The 271,000-square-foot office complex is on Jackrabbit Road between Loop 101 and Pima Road.
Despite several co-working spaces nearby, Spaces moved into this Scottsdale spot because “this address is the most prestigious in Scottsdale,” said Jack Toro, a Spaces area manager.
“We share this building with Yelp, Indeed and Weebly,” Toro said. “We’ve seen a lot of demand for flexible work spaces in this area.”
Cathy Fulton, an operations director for Scottsdale-based Churchill Capital Corp., was one of the first Scottsdale Spaces members after relocating from Minneapolis.
“The location is amazing,” said Fulton, who lives nearby. “I wanted to be in the middle of everything. This (Spaces) turned out better than I imagined.”
Spaces plans to open at least three more Valley locations, although no other sites have been finalized, he said.
Spaces is one of the many co-working options recently opening in the Valley, including the Emerald co-working space for women at the Quad business complex, AZCoWork opened by two local tech executives in north Scottsdale, and premium co-working firm Industrious with a nearby Old Town Scottsdale location and a soon-to-open space at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
