Can new coworking spaces be a good fit inside hotels?
December 3rd, 2018 TOPHOTELNEWS editor News 3089
Coworking spaces have become all the rage in urban planning and development.
Coworking spaces are essentially exactly what they sound like—shared workplaces, often in the form of an office, where people can go to independently get their work done. The main difference between a coworking space and a more traditional office setting, is that those inside who are coworking are not necessarily employed by the same companies. Such spaces have become key cogs for urban development, especially in major American cities, and now some hospitality companies are working to install them in hotels.
Specially, AccorHotels is doing that. AccorHotels has recently entered into a partnership with Nextdoor, which is a new entity separate from the social networking service for neighborhoods of the same name that’s based out of San Francisco, aimed at testing the viability of hosting coworking spaces like the ones described above within hotels.
The idea here is to forge a perfect mixture of coworking areas and hospitality, complete with a bright and spacious environment that allows for individuals from different sectors to come together in one space. This partnership has already yielded one new Nextdoor in-hotel coworking space, located within the Mercure Paris Montmartre Sacre Coeur. That facility is currently in the midst of a six-month testing phase.
Let’s take a look at a few other projects currently underway by Accor Hotels:
